Guide for Celeste - Chapter 1 (2024)

Tutorial

Start the game, with assist mode on, and play through the first scene until you learn to dash. You can skip cutscenes by pausing the game and selecting skip scene, however I recommend to follow along with the story.

Chapter 1 - Forsaken City

Collectibles

• 20 Strawberries
• 1 Hidden Tape
• 1 Crystal Heart

At the start of the level, pause the game and go to Assist Options.

• Infinite Stamina - On
• Air Dashes - Infinite
• Invincibility - On

Now you can basically fly with air dashes and not die.

• Go up one screen
• Grab the Strawberry by dashing straight up with or (1/20 Strawberries)
• Go up one screen
• Grab the Strawberry above the spikes in the right corner (2/20 Strawberries)
• Go up two screens
• Don't use dash here or the Strawberry may fly away. Use the platforms, grab the wall with and jump up. After contact you must land to collect it. (3/20 Strawberries) If it gets away, turn off invincibility and kill yourself until you collect it. Turn it back on when you are done.
• Go up one screen
• Go left one screen
• Dash up the middle, you can go through wood platforms, and then back down to reach the Strawberry. (4/20 Strawberries)
• Go right one screen
• Grab the Strawberry in the top left corner (5/20 Strawberries)
• Go to the bottom right and dash in to a big square ice block (to break it).
• Go right one screen
• Grab the visible Strawberry to your right (6/20 Strawberries)
• Go left one screen
• Go up one screen
• Go left one screen

Note: The green energy boxes can be ignored for most of the game with Assist Mode on.

• Go up one screen (the thin path in the top left)
• Dash to the left and you will find a Strawberry (7/20 Strawberries)
• Go down one screen through the small path to the left of the strawberry
• You can talk to the character but this is not mandatory
• Go right two screens

• There is a brown wall between two wooden platforms that is actually a dirt block which can be demolished with a dash. Grab the hidden Strawberry. (8/20 Strawberries)
• Go right two screens
• Dash straight up until you can only go left, then go left one screen (not the way you came)
• Grab () the wall with gears in it and it will move down. Do the same with the next one to your left.
• Go left one screen
• Dash to the left, past the birds, and grab the Strawberry near the television. (9/20 Strawberries)
• The TV flashes colors that line up to the birds you see. The birds will all spread out in different directions at once (sort of like their own dash). They make almost a star shape. You need to match the color to the direction the bird is going before they all pause. Don't worry, the work is done for you below.

Note: For ease of knowing whether you did it right or not, I highly recommend jumping for any dash that involves a +

White, Purple, Blue, Orange, Purple, Yellow which equates to:
Up, Left, Down + Right, Up + Right, Left, Up + Left

This puzzle will be used again in Chapter 6 so I wanted to properly explain it. After you've done the dash pattern a heart will appear, assuming you've done it right. Dash into it to collect the first Crystal Heart and unlock:

• Go right three screens

• Break the ice block in the top left of this screen, then go left one screen
• Grab the Strawberry and you are halfway done this level (10/20 Strawberries)
• Break the roof, which is an ice block, and go up one screen
• Go to the top right of the screen and go right one screen
• Grab the Strawberry in the middle of the screen (11/20 Strawberries)
• Go right one screen

• There is a small gap to the right of spikes and below some spikes on a wood platform. Go down one screen through said gap.
• Past the three contraptions is a Strawberry (12/20 Strawberries)
• Go up one screen

• Another small gap here, but this time in the roof
• Grab the Strawberry (13/20 Strawberries)
• Go down one screen
• Go right one screen
• Grab the Strawberry (14/20 Strawberries)
• Go up one screen
• Grab the Strawberry (15/20 Strawberries)
• Go right one screen
• Dash through the air to grab the Strawberry next to the spikes (16/20 Strawberries)
• Grab the contraption to the left so it moves, then quickly get behind it and go up one screen.
• Go up one screen
• Grab the contraption above you, get behind it and walk off screen to the left.

• That tape unlocked the "B Side" of this chapter. Go right one screen and grab the contraption to be able to move.
• Grab the Strawberry (17/20 Strawberries)
• Go down one screen
• Go left, past the contraption, and go left two screens
• Grab the Strawberry (18/20 Strawberries)
• Go right two screens
• Go down one screen
• Use the tiny grey block to avoid the contraption and go right one screen.
• Another flying Strawberry means you can't dash. Bounce on the bottom of the screen to the right, climb the wall, and use the bounce pad to grab the Flying Strawberry (19/20 Strawberries)
• Go left one screen
• Directly above you is a wood platform that leads to the end of the level
• Go up three screens

• Dash up and stand on the ice block in the middle of the screen. To the left is an ice block you can grab on to which will make it fall and open a path to the left. Go to the left one screen.
• Grab the Strawberry (20/20 Strawberries)
• Go right two screens
• Go up one screen
• Touch the grave and walk to the fire pit, skip the cutscene and end the level.

Go back to Chapter 1 and this time dash endlessly until you have six Blue Strawberries following you. When you stop, you should collect them all at once and the last one should result in a 1UP. You can exit the level after this is done. Restart the chapter if you collect too many, but ignore the winged strawberries. The video below shows the best path to take if you want to get the flying Strawberry. I found it easier to hold the whole time, cling to walls and plan my path before moving. Touching the ground for longer than a split second will result in you collecting one. This took me five tries and I skipped the flying strawberry (there are 20 in the level after all), but feel free to grab it if you like.

Collectibles

Note: The B Sides are all very linear but I have included the directions anyway in case you get stuck.

• Go up three screens
• Go right one screen
• Dash to the top right and go up one screen
• Dash to the right and go up one screen
• Dash to the right and go up another screen
• Go right one screen
• Go up one screen
• Grab the contraption to send it down and then go up one screen
• Go up one screen
• Dash to the top right and go right one screen
• Go right one screen
• Go up one screen
• Reach the tomb stone to find there is more to do.
• Dash to the right and through the Red Heart to unlock an achievement and end the B Side.

• Sever the Skyline
